The Clemson Tigers softball team has capped off an incredible season by finishing No. 9 in Softball America’s final Top 25 rankings for 2025. This marks the program’s first time landing in the final top 10, and it highlights a season filled with firsts, resilience, and championship moments.
A Season of Growth and Milestones
Led by Head Coach John Rittman, the Tigers posted a 48–14 overall record, including a 19–5 mark in ACC play, finishing just behind perennial powerhouse Florida State. Clemson’s balanced lineup and pitching staff carried them through a challenging schedule and showcased their growth as a young but ambitious program.
One of the season’s biggest milestones came in the ACC Tournament, where Clemson claimed its first-ever conference tournament title. The Tigers defeated Florida State in a thrilling 2–1 game, cementing their place among the ACC’s best and showing their ability to perform under pressure. Pressure was a word that Clemson welcomed, and performed well in those situations, time and time again.
NCAA Tournament Success
Clemson earned the 11th overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and hosted a regional for the third time in program history. They advanced to the Super Regional after a perfect 3–0 sweep in regional play against USC Upstate, Northwestern, and Kentucky, highlighting their depth and competitive spirit.
In Austin, Clemson faced Texas in a hard-fought Super Regional. After winning the first game—a program-first Super Regional victory—the Tigers pushed Texas to the brink before falling in a dramatic Game 3, 6–5. Despite the loss, Clemson’s postseason run proved they belong in the national conversation. Now with Texas being the National Champions in softball, it really shows how talented this Clemson softball team was this past year and how close they came to knocking off the team that would eventually go on to win it all. Very exciting times are still ahead for Coach John Rittman and his program at Clemson.
Climbing the Rankings
Softball America’s final poll recognized Clemson’s outstanding season, placing them No. 9 in the country. The Tigers climbed from No. 10 the previous week, leapfrogging other top programs like Florida State and Arkansas. They now sit behind only Texas (1), Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Tennessee, UCLA, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Florida—putting Clemson firmly among the nation’s elite.

Why No. 9 Matters
This top-10 finish is more than a number; it’s a statement. In just six seasons since the program’s inception, Clemson has risen from a newcomer to a national power. The Tigers’ growth reflects not just on-field success but also a cultural shift in how the softball world views Clemson: as a championship-caliber program.
For Coach Rittman and his staff, this ranking validates their vision and hard work. It also boosts Clemson’s profile in recruiting, signaling to top prospects that Tiger Town is a place where softball dreams can become reality.
Looking Ahead
With a strong returning core and a taste of Super Regional success, Clemson is poised to build on this historic season. The Tigers have set the bar even higher now, and with a national ranking inside the top 10, the goal is now clear: reach the Women’s College World Series and bring home even more hardware.
As the dust settles on a memorable 2025 season, one thing is clear: Clemson Softball isn’t just a feel-good story anymore — they’re a force to be reckoned with on the national stage. The Tigers are here to stay, and the best is yet to come.
