Wideman Commits!!
Welcome to Clemson, Ryan Wideman
Erik Bakich and the Clemson coaching staff continue their strong start to the transfer portal with a commitment from Ryan Wideman. The Georgia native spent the past season at Western Kentucky, where he was named the 2025 Conference USA Player of the Year. Wideman tallied a .398 batting average, .466 on-base percentage, .652 slugging percentage, and a 1.118 OPS this season, along with 97 hits, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, six triples, 45 stolen bases (school record), and 68 runs batted in. Wideman was a huge part of the success that the Hilltoppers saw this season, as they won the Conference USA championship and reached the NCAA Oxford Regional.
Wideman played all 60 games at center field this season, although he does have some experience playing in right field from his time in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. It seems as though Clemson has found their replacement for Cam Cannarella in Ryan Wideman, as the 6’5 204 pounder is a freak athlete.
To quote D1 Baseball, “Ryan Wideman is a five-tool athlete who runs like a deer and offers intriguing overall upside.”
The only concern with Wideman, much like with Ty Dalley, is that he could be a target in the upcoming MLB Draft in July. If both Dalley and Wideman stick around at Clemson, this team could have a scary good outfield.
Ryan Wideman’s transfer to Clemson isn’t all that surprising as his father, Tom, played basketball for the Tigers from 1995-1999. With Clemson’s need for a center fielder and Ryan’s strong connection to Clemson athletics, it should be a perfect fit for both parties.
